Post by 1971ford »

i was getting pics for Oldredford of the "ears" on my tranny's and found that they are both different.

my 69 and my 71 both have c6 auto's both connected to 360's. did they change this over the years? why?

Perhaps a difference between car and truck transmissions?

I really have no idea, don't know jack about automatics. Just a thought...

No I mean someone may have changed them out for different parts. Not all C6 use the same style. Maybe swapped the trans or complete drivetrain. Quite a bit can happen in 40 years.

u stumped the world when u said your tranny has ears--cars,trucks and vans will or can have different shift lever designs-and when u think u have seen them all-think again because u will find one that has a different design--reading the repair manuals is a good place to learn the correct nomenclature

I always liked the fact that the Ford service manual and the parts manual use different nomenclature for the same item.
Ryan's post titled "Ears" had me thinking top 2 bell housing bolt bosses.

not blaming anyone just mentioned what ears mean to me, and that even Ford doesn't call items by one name :)

just for edification & clarification---
i refer to 1978 Ford Factory issued shop manual 75th anniversary vol 1 chassis section 17-10-2 c6 automatic transmission fig 1 sectional D 1924-D

items in question are named "control lever"

i don't see much room for error when u call them a lever whether shift or control--i have never seen them referred to as ears

now feel free to call them what u will--just don't expect everyone to know what u r referring 2
