Third member and axles?

Third member and axles?

I recently replaced the third member in my 67. The axles do not grip though. I am guessing my best option is to replace axles that will work with the new third member I just installed. How do I know what axles I need? Will counting the teeth at the end of axles be of any help?

27 or 31 spline. or are they to short?
