80-86 ford clutch question another question

im looking at a 80-86 ford f100 or f150 truck that is at the same place i got my other 2 trucks at. It has a manual transmition and i never looked under the hood but if it has a compatable engine im gonna get it to have the bellhousing and clutch assemballies for my 302...now i know these eras of trucks had 302,s and 351w and several other comatable engine sizes.

My question is did these trucks still use the manual clutches or hydrolics?? doesnt matter either way ill make it work just wanna know what im getting into. Dad is gonna go down and look at it to see what size engine is in it and if it is a 4 speed or 5 speed tranny and where can i find info on what kind of transmissions were in these years of trucks

Hydraulic.
I don't think they used a 5 speed that early, but they did have a 3 speed with overdrive.

dad went down and lookd and said that the knob on the shifter said reverse was towards you and up and said it was spring loaded that direction but he didnt try it since he was there to look to see what engine it was

o yeah it also is a 4 speed and according to the vin i think its a 300 inline 6 but i would have to accually look at it my self since dads eyes arent what they use to be...he couldnt get the hood to open all the way (he said hell get it open tommorrow morning)....but wouldnt the bell housing clutch and tranny work behind my 302 in my 70???

My '83 F250 4x4 with 300 and 4spd had a mechanical clutch. As I understand it, only the diesel trucks had hydraulic clutches in the '80-'86 trucks.

yea this one has a manual clutch though the tranny has a some play in the shift and for me is sorta hard to find the gears
