ticking noise under my truck

Post by kevs250 »

Hey guys.
I have had a ticking noise under my truck when I drive and only when I accelerate and step on the brakes, but not when im stoped or going 60 on the freeway. the ticking seems louder when i accelerate. Im not sure if this is drivetrain or my brakes but it doesnt sound to good.
if you guys could get back to me asap. thanks everyone

i had a noise similar to that i had a broken spring on my drum brake and the automatic adjuster was rattling around inside espically when i first started moving.

try and locate about where its coming from then look in that area for anything loose and then possibly check the brake drum closest to that area jsut my :2cents:

A friend of mine had a similar sounding problem. We started taking off his brake drums and discovered one of his grease caps had fallen off and was rattling around.

the noise comes and goes. today there was not noise but it starts again when i have been driving my truck for a while and when i have to hit the gas to merge.
when I changed my drum brakes 2 years ago there was a spring loose and cut a groove into my drum. it could be the same spring.

just do what i do... when your going 40 mile an hour or so open your door and look underneath the truck and see if you can find the noise

well then have the passenger do it!

or what would be even better, get under the truck and grab on to something and have someone drive your truck on the highway. im sure you will find the problem if your still there to tell it. :D

or how about put it on a roller car rack somewhere (smog shops have them) and that way you can have the wheels driving 50 mph while you can walk around the truck :dk:

or go to a smog shop where you dont have to pay if it fails, and make it fail before hand, and while he is "driving" it on the rollers, check for sounds
your going to have to convince the smog dude that your truck is a 1977 or something though lol
