Question about 3 speed
I have a 3 speed that came out of a 70 2wd with a 360. Will this work with a 351w? Does it have a super low first? The tad is RAT-CD I have looked for geaar ratio info but can't find anything. I have a C4 auto now and it sux. Want something for performance. Also does anyone know of a good floor shifter with a short throw for these old fords? Thanks

re: Question about 3 speed
Yep. The tranny will work... BUT, it isn't much of a performance tranny.
You would be much better with a toploader out of a galaxie or Fairlane.... Put a Hurst shifter behind it and it will be FAST.
The other option ... ZF5 or NV4500... pricy though. (there is a guy that has used the NV 3550, but in a 4wd config).
The ZF and the 4500 will NOT shift like a performance tranny, but much better than any NP435...
BTW, The early Bronco guys consider the 3 speed a doorstop.... 1st is wimpy (ratio) and the 3 are too far apart for good crawling.

Re: re: Question about 3 speed
Thanks for the info. I am looking to put this in a 2wd short bed. I just don't care for autos. But I dont want granny gear. Something to curse around with. Maybe drop the clutch and smoke em off a few times.71PA_Highboy wrote:Yep. The tranny will work... BUT, it isn't much of a performance tranny.

The way I drive a t5 would last me about 15 minutes.jellybean wrote:You will need to get the bellhousing for a small block. The 360 bellhousing will not bolt to a 351W. You can use any Transmission for a 5.0 (302) or 351W, including a T-5 out of a mustang. That would give you 5 gears with out a granny and a nice overdrive.
