The junkyard will be full of enough ford rear-ends to find what we need, now you just have to find a way to get me to pull them for you. Hmmm, keep your room clean for a month? Do a decent job of cleaning the pool for once?

Nice save. We are definitely going to need 3.73's if we plan on towing over the sierras into Nevada. And the disc brakes to slow us down going over the other side.

and also, how much do gears weigh? want to know how bad shipping would be.

and is there a way to tell what ratio the gears are when there by themselves so theres no door tag or rearend tag to show the ratio? are they stamped with the ratio?

thanks :)
Welcome to Gears 101.How to figure out the ratio is pretty simple.Count the number of teeth on both the ring and pinion gears. Now divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. The result of this is the ratio.

Example: Ring gear has 41 teeth
Pinion has 10 teeth

Answer: 4.10 ratio. :)

15 lbs. or so? If I think about tomorrow, I'll get you a precise weight as I have a set out in the garage that I could weigh. I get ALL DAY LONG tomorrow and Wednesday to work on my bump!!! :woohoo: They're not crazy heavy. Probably the easiest thing to do for your dad (again, a pretty cool one by the way!) would be to just grab the whole pumpkin if the money is right unless the yard has taken the liberty of removing the ring and pinion already (doubt it). That way, you can rebuild that one while your other stays put in the housing (the beauty of a 9"). Once you're done, swap it! If he's looking for a complete 3rd member, make sure it's a 28 spline so your axles will go right in.
