okay auto tranny in a 91 (auto) w/o0verdrive, not even sure what tranny it is yet, anyway it's behind a 300 inliner, 4x4, runs perfect in reverse, now in drive it does a funny wheel hop thing, I notice the tranny fluid is not red, it looks like regular engine oil, does not smell burnt, but does not smell like engine oil either, anyway put it in drive give her a little gas, the truck feels like it's wheel hoppin, and the whole truck just vibrates to beat all heck, won't even shift into 2nd or first gear, anybody know what gives

I think we need to Identify the Tranny first.

If the column shift pattern is P-R-N-OD-D-1 Its an AOD
If it is P-R-N-OD-2-1 its an E4OD.

right now all I can say, is that it's a standard auto with the overdrive switch on the dash (button). hopefully, I'll get a chance to look at it today and determine which tranny I have

If it has the seperate o/d switch then it's an E4OD.

well it is the E4OD, and, the torque converter is bad
