Had to put the 70 Camper Special on the road. The Lincoln had to go to the shop ($1900 estimate to cure its serpentine belt eating habit). That meant the wife got the other truck (Chev) to commute to work and left me with nothing with current tags except the CS.
Well that old CS spits and pops and hiccups since the day I bought it for a project. I was told it had one dead cylinder when I bought it ... and I believed their mechanic so I wasn't driving it, I just fired it up every week and dreamed about building a 460 for it. But now it was needed for my commute to work.
I popped the hood and finally began looking around. Gee, what a shiny new distributor it has! Put the vacuum gauge on and fired it up. It was only pulling 10 inches of vacuum so I shut her down and loosened the distributor bolt. Fired her back up and cranked the distributor around about 10 degrees and started pulling 19 1/2 inches of vacuum. Locked the distributor back down and re-set the carb idle. Small valve tick on the gauge at idle, but she runs and purrs now ... and they love seeing it out at work.
I really should have done this months and months ago!
