excessive chatter

Post by mark carrick »

Hey guys I have a "73" F-100. I get a heck of a lot of chatter in first gear. I replaced the clutch and throw out bearing about a year ago because the clutch pedal kept getting softer and softer. I discovered the throw out bearing to be literally mangled and the release fork a bit damaged. After the repairs were made the same thing is happening. I have just about run out of room on the adjusting rod, and some times find myself trying to put the pedal through the floor board to keep from stalling. The problem seems less in the morning and gets worse as I drive, by the end of the day I am experiencing gear clash in 2nd and reverse. Any ideas on what to look for. Thanks for your'time. :?

what transmission is it? is it a three on the tree? or a floor shift 4 spd? it does sound like its worn though. a sugjestion the other day was talking about the front bearing in the trans being worn and lettignt he front shaft move around and cause premature wear of the carrier bearing and clutch. it think it could have said something about grinding gears also. heres the other thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=32024
