CruiseOMatic for C6 swap
67 F250 w/352 - COM finally bit the dust. Unable to find anyone around here willing to recuild it.
so - i ve located a C6 from a 72 F250 that was behind 390.
Today we pulled he old out and bolted up the C6.
with the 2 trans sitting side by side i noticed a few differences
1) the C6 is about 2" longer than the COM - i beleife the slip-joint will allow that to work.
2) transmission moun on the C6 is about 2" behind the COM - not an issue - there are slots in the crossmember and additional holes already in the frame.
3) speedo cable - the COM has a screw-on cable - the C6 has a hole where a the speedo drive gear slides in. I assume i'll have to get a cable for the later C6.
4) drive line attachment. the COM has a flat plate on the trans that bolts to another flat plate containg the front U Joint. the C6 looks like the UJoint bolts right to the yoke. i'll have to get some U-joint bolts.
Question - should i swap yokes on the trannies or get the U-joint for the 72?

The earler C6 have the screw in type. My old 70 and 68 have the screw in type.brainfart3 wrote:

re: CruiseOMatic for C6 swap
getting there... had to drill new holes in the frame for the trans crossmember - not a big deal.
however the bolt-on /2 piece driveline now seems to be a couple inches too long
i'm not adverse to drilling more holes for the driveline support mount - but the slip-in just doesn't seem to slide all way into the yoke.
must i cut off a couple inches of the splines to make this work???
also - anyone have an extra kick-down linkage that bolts to the side of the C6? i have the kick-down rod - but trans linkage is missing.
trip to the wrecking yard yesterday proved fruitless

re: CruiseOMatic for C6 swap
not to be disagreeable, but the FMX is a better tranny. It's a roller tranny with just as much strength as a C-6 and uses less HP

re: CruiseOMatic for C6 swap
BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!!!!
issues:
1) had to drill holes in the frame to move the crossmember because C6 is 1.5" longer (2 drill bits @ $5 each)
2) shorten front driveline 1.5" so the center support could remain in the same location ($65)
3) new speedo cable - FMX had a screw-on end to the tranny - C6 had a slide-in unit ($20 at pick-n-pull)
4) adjust the linkage so P is P and D is D.
other than that - piece-o-cake!
