tranny pan removal question

Post by SteveC »

Ok this friday im planning on tackeling the replacement of my tranny gasket and filter.
My question is that since my pan sets sideways and part of the bolts are between the crossmember and the pan looks like it will be fun to get it...and suggestions on making this a easier job or is it gonna just be a grand old fun time the ones im talking about are above the crossmemeber and between the bellhousing and the pan its self thankyou

1/4 drive 1/2" flex socket works well in those tight spots. I suggest taking it down to the local do-it-yourself car wash and pressure washing the trans so that you can find the bolts and not get any unnecessary dirt anywhere in the trans...:)

I removed the same pan a couple weeks ago.
the front pan bolts aren't too difficult - i used a short extension rather than a "wobble-joint".
after all the bolts were out the pan dropped down - was able to move the pan around under there (shifting from side to side and sliding up out of the way) but never did get it to come all the way out.

might be asking a stupid question but did you unhook the dip stick tube from the pan?? that is how i drained mine and after i did that the pan was fairly easy to get out of there...no factory plug though..
