What kind of rearend do I have?

Post by Georgia71 »

I know that this is a ford rearend but! I have been driving everywhere for these parts. The vin code plate on the door has the 08 code. Which translates to 3.50-3300# Ford. I know my Dad changed this thing out several times. Experimenting with different gear ratios. The one I currently have is a 3.25 gear. I guess that explains why I was getting 13 mpg. I'm currently having a hard time getting the axle seals for this thing. The last place I went to was NAPA and I think they gave me the wrong seals. You set the old seal and new seal flat on the table and the new one is thinner. The old seal stands up higher. Does this make a difference? Or does the inside and outside diameter only matter? I bet I've used up 5 gallons of gas looking for these things.Maybe I should just get from lmc. Who usually has these seals?

Alot of new seals are made that way now (thinner) :o . If you can't get ahold of the same thinkness seal. The thinner seals work just fine. Just make sure the ID and OD of the seal is that same as the old seal.

If your asking what rear-end you have, it's a Ford 9 inch. :2cents:

Thanks for all the replies folks. I went to a different napa today and he had the same looking seals as the other. But the part number was different. The one I got before was for the 3600 lb. axle. The ones from today are for the 3300 lb axle. They are thinner or should I say not as deep as the other ones. I'm going with these anyway being it doesn't matter and they are the same id and od.
