What color should the bellhousing be?

Post by SportCustom »

Should it match the block or the trans?

My trans has a cast grey color (BW-T85) but the motor is the ford blue. How was this painted from the factory?

Thanks,
Todd

i bet it was no color at all. i would paint it brite silver. so you can see it better when under the truck working on it or putting it back on.

I just stripped an original truck and the only paint that I could tell was just overspray from the back of the motor.I will make it match the trans I guess, and it will be cast looking so may appear original.

I don't think the transmissions/bellhousings were painted at all. I know the transmissions were bare iron, the apparently original virgin trucks I've pulled down have shown no signs of paint on the bellhousings, just oil and dirt.

yes silver is bad for holding up. the only reason i suggested that was because it is easier to see when you are putting it back in.

I am using the cast color engine paint. That way it looks original but is painted.
