Use the bigger clutch AND fly wheel! I learned my lesson the hard way!

re: Clutch - 11 or 11 1/2?
I don't KNOW which clutch you should use (but my opinion is to buy the bigger one).
however, as I was going to post this as a question anyways, I figure I might as well ask you!
I would like to ask for some measurements off your flywheel, if you could. I've got a 12 inch clutch that is supposed to fit the 11.5 inch 390 flywheel, but apparently my flywheel didn't come from a 390 originally. It has the same bolt pattern as the 360 flywheel in my garage.
If you could, I need the center-to-center measurements for one of the three sets of bolt holes for the pressure plate, and then a center-to-center measurement from one set to the next (in the two bolt holes from each "set" closest to each other) like shown in the pic attached.

I know the flywheel sitting in the garage has no part number on it, and I'm pretty sure the one in the truck doesn't as well (kind of hard to tell at the moment however )

I've got a giant pile of 360/390 truck flywheels and they're all exactly the same and they all fit 12" clutches just peachy.
From my experience with parts guys that don't have a clue, the FE 12" pressure plate has 6 bolts while the later 12" 385 series/400 pressure plate they'll try to sell you has 8 bolts.
The only problem I ever had with a 12" clutch behind an FE was the pressure plate hitting the bellhousing. I had to grind 1/16" off the outer edges of the pressure plate or it would make a pretty good racket.

re: Clutch - 11 or 11 1/2?
The flywheels are the same but they are drilled for different size clutches. I know the Hiboys used the one with the larger clutch. I tried the smaller one once because my old flywheel was trash and wasn't aware of the difference and I had to adjust the adjuster out quite abit several times. It got to the point where I had to just replace it with the correct flywheel and clutch. As soon as I put the correct flywheel/clutck back in, it was back to normal. Now I'm not sure on the 4x2's as The only 4x2 I had that was a manual I never had to replace the clutch.

The clutch pattern is the same on all those I have. They came from all sorts of 67-76 Fords 2wd and 4x4 390's and 360's.
Paul, The measurements from one that still has a 12" clutch on it are 3 9/16" center-center between close holes and 8 15/16" center-center between far away holes.

re: Clutch - 11 or 11 1/2?
Which is different than both of my flywheels (spare and the one in my truck) They both are 3 3/8's by 8 9/16's.
But the new clutch kit I have fits those measurements you have. Sounds like I might have car flywheels, perhaps. Odd that the 360 would have one, not so odd that the one on my 390 would be because the machine swap did a straight across swap with me when I had the engine built (and gave me the clutch to go with it). Who knows what they gave me (apparently I don't )
