fmx vs C6 vs manual
67 F250 w/352 & fmx
just driven from Modesto, CA to Phoenix, Az w/o incident. avg 15.2 mpg too
anyway - couple days later went to make a parts run - tranny just slips in forward gears. almost got up to 30 mph!
in reverse - "snaps' right in.
dropped the pan, fluid is badly burnt, adjusted the servo. no change.
story i had was this trans was rebuilt a few years ago but it took them several attempts to "get it right".
considering my options here:
1) rebuild the fmx (with a good tech book)
2) swap in a C6 (also rebuild before install)
3) swap for a manual trans - done several on early mustangs. is the 352 crank drilled or a pilot bushing?
have a line on a complete 390 FE & C6 ... another option..
appreciate your feedback...

FMX IN 67 was the Cruise O matic wasn't it? In 65 and 66 they were I'm not sure on 67.
I've had 4 C6s and had trouble with 2. Both of them lost 2nd gear. However, the other two were great. I've never had a rebuilt one or rebuilt one myself but they seem to be pretty good trannies. I'd go the C6 route.

re: fmx vs C6 vs manual
yes the 67 has the cruse o matic my 67 f250 has the cruse o matic how ever my 70 ltdwas a fmx. The pans are very similar but set differently. The pan on my 67 sits sideways and is a bear to get off..and my ltd was lenthwise and fairly easy.
Not to mention the cruse o matic the coolent went back to the tranny and the fmx the tranny fluid went to a in radiator cooler.
If i ever run across a 4x4 or 2 wheel 67 with a 4speed im gonna convert over to a manual since they are so much more fun to drive

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

thx guys - and yes- i remember the commerical.
long sides of the pan parallel the bumpers. filler tube screws into the passengers side of the pan. and it has a trans cooler.
i'll scour craigslist to see what kind of donor rig i can find.

Does your Cruise O Matic have a Bolt on flange at the rear or a slip yoke like the the cars? You'll probably need to find a 68-72 FE C6 with the bolt on flange for the U Joint.

re: fmx vs C6 vs manual
sideoilerfe - both - i think - there's a portion that slips into the back of the tranny - then a plate that bolts on where the Ujoint is attached.
brett6269 - no worries! didn't take it wrong. will be used as a parts chaser / oldies cruise nite on main / and towing car trailer to/from the dirt track (lincoln towncar in a "bomber" class).
looking like a C6 is the ticket - unless i can find a donor rig w/manual tranny.. just gotta line on a complete 390FE w/C6 .... more later.
again THANKS!!!!

re: fmx vs C6 vs manual
I like your line on the 390/C6 and wish I could have found one myself! As it is, I found the 390 and I'm still looking for a good C6! I've already got the 390/C6 combo in my '69 short 2WD now but I want to build up some spares to swap into it later with a few go-fast goodies added! I'd go with the C6 for sure. If they're built right, they are tough and hard to break!

Not only just bigblock version, but fe version. The bellhousing for fe is different than any other ford bell.
