As long as the pumpkin is a 9" (and not a 9-3/8", which looks very similar) it'll bolt right in, regardless of spline count. A 31-spline setup will also bolt right in, it'll just be next to impossible to find axles for it without getting some custom-made.

Remember when you unbolt that pumpkin it's going to be heavy, ver-r-ry heavy, if you are lying under the car doing the swap, so be ready for it. I swapped out a back-lashing 8" non-positraction pumpkin on a 250,000 + miles 1967 Mustang I used to have and I was shocked to see how heavy it was when I finally got it seperated from the housing.

I've swapped out trannys before, did the auto to manual tranny swaps, and more, and thought they were tough, and heavy, but I had the floor jack to assist me with them. The rear differential seemed a little tougher to get reinstalled when I did that one.

I can only imagine how much the 9" weighs and warn you ahead of time to be prepared for it.
Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!

Part of the difficulty with the weight of the 9" pumpkin compared to other items is it's size. It's relatively small compared to a tranny, and it's an awkward shape, making it hard to hang onto, especially on a floor jack with a small saddle. It's very thick casting is what undoubtedly makes it as strong as it is, but extremely heavy too.

Best bet is looking at ebay, or mid-fullsize cars from the late 60's that had a 9". Many cars had 3.00 and 2.75 rear axle ratios, especially the bigger cars.
