5 speed transmission

So ive been recently considering putting a 5 speed in my truck to make it a little more comfortable to drive. What I would like to know is what different tranny options I have and how difficult it is to swap out. I would prefer the same trans thats in my dads truck which is a 97' f350. That trans has never had any problems and takes a lot of towing and abuse.
My truck has an np435 mated to a 429. Thanks for any help.

You can bolt in an 87-97 460 ZF 5 speed. Have to go to a mated t-case though.

So is the zf 5 speed what would in my dads 97' f350 7.3l?

Yeah the ZF5 is in your dads truck

Yes, it's a ZF, but it's the diesel version. It has very different ratios from the 460 ZF speed. They still shift the same and hold up just as good.

So either one will work just the same?

No, you have to have a 460 version. The diesel bellhousing is different. You also need a flywheel that will accept the late model clutch or have a late model flywheel nuetral balanced to work on your 429.
