axle breakage

Post by toddsF100 »

my bro in laws 72' f100 lost its left rear wheel on the highway at 60mph,luckily he is ok,the tire damaged the rear left side of the fenderwell and the bumper and the backing plate, drum and brakes are toast.my question is this....what years of 9inch axle shafts will fit it?the housing is ok so i am gonna replace both rear axles.i just have no idea if ford made some changes in later yrs to the 9inch or not.i know the spring perches are different but the axles i am not sure of.thx for the help.

On a later Ford Truck the axels are wider/longer than what came on our Trucks.
For the axel to come out it would had to Brake the 4 bolt Flange that holds the axel in place,so you may have to do some work there or get a new housing.

the axle shaft sheared off just after the bearing, the housing survived.so that means i need axles out of a 72 and earlier 9 inch then?
