Transmission problem

Transmission problem
Hauled a bunch of bricks in my 72 shortbed and started to notice she wasnt running real strong at take off. I thought it was just the weight but the next day I took it for a spin and it kept doing the same thing. It takes it a bit to actually get up to speed, but once there runs fine. I was told that there is a vacum problem. Can anyone explain this to me. There is not a strong vacum for the transmission and that is the problem, at least thats what the mechanic said. It this a costly repair? What does it involve. THanks

either you vaccuum line to your transmission modulator valve has came loose or your modulator on it's way out? Modulator about $13.

If the vac line is loose or off or cracked the motor should be running like junk and probably even stalling. You'd be sucking major air into the intake creating a lean condition.
This happened to me and it took me a weak to find it! I could start it and only keep it running by goosing the throttle hard every second.

like everyone has already said. it could be the vacuum hoses are leaking or the modulator. the modulator is on the bottom back side of the transmission. it is held in with one bolt. these can be replaced or sometimes adjusted. inside the vacuum line hole in the modulartor is a screw that can be turned to make it work differently.

I think it takes longer for it to speed up. It just doesnt seem to want to speed up, once its there its runs fine. It idols fine and everything, just doesnt want to take off and go like it usually does.

Maybe you lost 2nd gear. Can you feel it shift into every gear? If you lost 2nd, it would usually rev a little higher in 1st before it slides into 3rd at about 18-22 MPH or so. Is it a C6?
Maybe you've got it in 2nd. The fords will start in 2nd if the selector is in second. Make sure you "feel" each transition from park or reverse into drive. Don't just look at the selector and assume it's in drive.
