C6 install
I want to put a C6 in my 72. Do I need a different transmission cross member? Or does it need to be modified any? If it helps any it will be behind a 460 V8.
Also, what can I do about shifter linkage between the steering column and the transmission?

Which tranny is in there now?
On my 70 frame, there are two sets of pre-drilled holes for the trans x-member to bolt to. You may have to change the driveshaft depending on what trans was in there.

re: C6 install
Theres no engine or trans in it now. It had been a auto with a 360 v8.

so you have a truck that was auto before and you want to put a auto back in it right? ok then you just use your old stuff to put it back in with. the crossmember and shift rods will hook up the same no matter what engine you are putting in it. driveshaft length may or may not be an issue. i think that is all i can think of you need to worry about.

re: C6 install
You have a shift rod that mounts at the firewall and it has a special bolt on transmission end (where it is slotted) that fits into the factory linkage on the side of the C-6 automatic. As far as I know, none of that is reproduced, so you can't just buy from any repro place. You're either going to have to locate a column shift auto truck in a yard and rob these peices or something. Main part is you need to ensure your C-6 has the stock bracketry on the side of it to hook to.

re: C6 install
I can post a pic of the rod if you'd like...
Its basically just a heavy rod with a very slight bend in it, threads into a block on the column end for adjustment. The end points are going to be the tough part... column end has some plastic looking grommits and a keeper, trans end has an angle bend that hooks to the shift lever.
If you're handy, you could probably make something up that would work out of some heavy, strong rod - it'd have to be *really* hard to bend out of it's intended shape due to the stresses it will encounter from repeated shifts - especially coming out of park on an incline.
(guess I better get batteries for the camera!)

I used one of the shift rods from a 3 on the tree in my 78. You could also try this.
