How did we go from "pink" to "red with a green stripe"?
And thus far, I've been unable to trace ANY wire from the column to the firewall... mainly because I was told it goes from the IGNITION to the firewall. So which one is it??

Thanks... that's a place to start, but Robert's instructions weren't to do anything with the wire from the coil to the ignition... it was to splice out the pink wire between the ignition and some black connector @ the center of the dash.
Robert, Thunderfoot, Kid... you guys out there???

Re: re: I didnt do my home work
OK... I don't mean to , however....
NOW I see where my confusion is setting in:
Of course, Keith also said "pink wire" like Robert, though you are saying it's a "red wire with a green stripe" for the 67 trucks. I DO see that wire in the attached picture, though it surprises me to see it wrapped into the harness if it indeed gets so hot from the resistance.
HOWEVER... this does not jive with the instructions Robert was giving me:

Ok... SO, Keith's description of the wire running from the ignition switch to the coil corresponds with yours, fordman.FORDification wrote:The ballast wire is more-commonly called the resistor wire on our trucks. It's a long pink wire which extends from the ignition switch to the coil. And no, the Pertronix II needs a full 12V, so you won't use the resistor wire, if I'm understanding this correctly.

So which is it?? Red/green wire from switch to coil? "Pink" wire from switch to coil? "Pink" wire from switch to "middle of dash plugged into a black connector"??lrjetmech wrote:basically, you look under the dash where the ignition switch is. You should see the pink resistor wire plugged into the ignition switch. Come back about 3 inches from the ignition switch, and cut the wire. Splice in a regular piece of automotive wire-14-16 guage or so should be fine. Now, follow the pink wire towards the center of the dash area. It will be plugged into a black connector. Come back about 3 inches, cut the wire, and splice in the other end of the wire that you spliced in by the ignition switch. That's all there is! Save the pink resistor wire in the rare case you wanted to convert it back to points.

FYI... I'll try to take a look at the coil tomorrow and see what runs from it, and to where. If it indeed is the red/green wire, and I just make and run a new one, where do I plug it in to the ignition switch??

Yeah, still here. On mine, the pink resistor wire went from the ignition switch to a black connector at the center of the dash. The other side of that connector was three wires going out to the engine bay: 1 to the coil, one to the water temp sensor, and one to the oil pressure sensor. See this print for a '67: http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... gauges.jpgfordman wrote:but the wire you are splicing goes to the coil.
Connector "D" shows wire # 016A, which is the pink resistor wire going over to the ignition switch. This wire is also connected to wire # 262 at terminal "D", which is a brown wire that goes out to the solenoid switch. The other side of connector "D" is the three wires that go out to the coil, water temp sensor, and oil pressure sensor in the engine bay.
My '69 was almost identical!

re: I didnt do my home work
Just seen this post and read through it I'm still behind and finding posts after being gone for a week a couple weeks back... See if the attached diagram that I modified with some color helps you out a bit
The 67's are a little different then the others but still they're similar... As Fordman mentioned The 67 has a Red-Grn striped wire from the ignition switch, it goes to a connecter under the dash and then it turns to the "PINK" wire that you want to replace up to the connector that is just outside the firewall. Then the wire goes back to Red-Grn stripe to the coil...
This "PINK" wire is, as you found out, a special wire that is resistive so replace it and the voltage at the coil will now be the 12 volts needed for the P-II.
Hope this helps

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

Yes, a correction on my part ( )-on MY truck, the pink wire was at the ignition switch. Look here for a '67: http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... gauges.jpgSupermike wrote:FYI... From connector "D", the pink resistor wire (wire #16A) goes thru a small connector of some sort, and then changes to a red/green stripe wire (wire #16), which then goes over to the ignition switch. Not sure how it attaches at the ignition switch on a '67, but it goes to pin "A" on a '69.

re: I didnt do my home work
Ok... I need a ... LOL!
Thunderfoot... THANK YOU for the color coded diagram. That makes much more sense to me now!! Thanks to Robert, too, for pointing me in the right direction. Fordman, I think you were on the right track, too, but the Red-Grn wire does not go from the ignition to the coil, directly.
So tomorrow (or Saturday), if the weather allows, I'm going to crawl my 250lb self back under the dash and see if I can find this spot where the Red-Grn wire turns to Pink. If I can find that, I think I'll be in business!!
I'll be honest, though... my wiring in that section of the dash is really hacked up, I think. So it may be that I'll need to sort out what I'm calling my "rats nest" before I can properly identify the wires I'm looking for. But at least now I know what to trace, and to where. (I think! haha!)
Thanks again and again for all your help, guys... I know this will benefit other folks down the road, too!
Stay tuned!!

re: I didnt do my home work
No problem! If bad comes to worse, you can always just run new wiring from the solenoid to the center of the dash, make a two-way splice, run one wire out to the coil, and the other over to your ignition switch, and you will have all new wiring, just the way you need it! That wiring print is priceless!
