U-joint removel

Post by worldsmysterie »

I am in the middle of removing a new engine for my truck and the only thing that is stoping me is that damn u-joint. Im trying to remove the one right behind the transmission. Some pics would help for sure and detailed directions. thanks, I've been trying for some time now. thanks again.

if you want to remove the whole driveshaft to do it you have to take the rear shaft out first. it has four nuts on the u clamps. then it just slides forward a slight and down. then all the way back until its off the first half. then you go to the front half and remove the four nuts like the rear. from the clamps. then there are two more bolts that hold the carrier bearing in. then just pull backward out of the transmission yoke. this is for a two piece drive shaft for a longbed. a single dirveshaft should have a slip joint only. for a slip joint shaft just remove the four nuts on the back clamps and pull the shaft out of the trans. put a pan under the tailshaft to catch any fluid.
