68 SWB vs. 79 SWB length?

Post by Dave68 »

I bought a 79 parts truck and used the whole drive line out of it. I went to put the driveshaft in and the driveshaft is to long. I thought the two trucks are the same length. If anything I was worried that the driveshaft would be to short. Any Ideas?

the 79 transmission is longer than the 68 transmission. because the 68 auto trans has a short tailhousing with a bolt on yoke. the 79 transmission has a slip in yoke. and is longer for the slip in yoke type trans.

ahhh darn!!! haha.... everything was going so darn easy I knew there would be something! thanks. so the I am still a little lost. I am using the driveshaft out of the 79. so does that mean that the 79 is a little longer in wheelbase?

The 68 swb is 115", whereas the 79 frame is 117" :2cents:

Thanks. That makes since. I measured it and I need to take off 2" off the driveshaft.
