Disc brake (and engine) upgrade

Post by myoldtrucks »

Hi all,

First timer, here. I have two 69 short box trucks, and I have a friend that has a 87 cargo van for sale ($750, scrape value of body maybe $200??). It has a fuel-injected 302 that I want to put in my 302 truck. My big question is the disc brakes. I did read the tech article, and to be honest, I am not 100% sure the van has twin I-beams, but does anyone know if that is a workable deal? I think, if nothing else, I will buy it for the fuel-injected system, but want disc brakes, also.
Any help / advise is appreciated. Thanks! Bill

Those vans go for scrap price in good shape around me.

If you do get the van for the engine don't plan on using the wiring harness. They absolutely suck.

Get an 87-89 truck wiring harness.

And no, sorry....those van brakes won't work on your truck. You'll need to get a setup from a '73-'79 F100/F150 pickup.

See also http://www.megasquirt.info/ Its a 'homegrown' controller... If I had an EFI setup to tinker with, would give it a shot :)

For the brakes to swap, you'll need find a donor that has the same spindles that are on your truck. Yours is an F100, right?

Bill,

Surely there's a few 73-79 trucks around where you live?
