C6 help!

Post by Darrman »

Ok, the truck is being sent out to the welders for a few weeks to get the floors replaced, I had to take the trans out of the bed to get it ready to go. I have decide while the truck is gone, and while I have plenty of work space, I will work on the c6 trans.
First of all, I know absolutely nothing about this trans, other than it went into park and neutral and moved in drive and reverse. I have no idea if it will shift into second or third.
There are no leaks, or evidence of leaks, fluid was clean when I pulled it out. The truck has been sitting for at least 10 years, maybe more. The trans has a rebuilders tag, from Dallas with a 1989 date.
So all that said, what can I do to confirm that its usable, or should I take it to a shop? I want to take it to be flushed, and a new filter and pan put on. Is there a vacuum module that needs replacing?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I would dump the fluid, change the filter, new converter seal and get a new modulator.

You can tear into it and inspect the frictions/steels/seals, but if you pull the pan and there isn't evidence of friction flakes or lots of brass you're probably fine.
