Are you sure it is a C4? Here is a id chart. If its behind an fe it may be fmx.

Your picture of the gasket definitely looks like a C-4.
Maybe you have a FMX?

re: c4 transmission pan gastket
I have a 70 f250 with a 360 automatic tranny
on my vin, it has a G under transmission which means it has a c4
but the pan gastket looks like a c6......
i am confused
a previous owner might have put in a new tranny, but im not really sure

Did you check out the transmission ID chart that Craftsman suggested here:
http://www.fordification.com/images/FAQ ... nsID07.gif
Yes someone could have easily changed the tranny, (you can't rely on the ID tags alone).

re: c4 transmission pan gastket
So what is the deal with the little bump-out in the upper righthand corner of the C4 pan gasket? My father-in-law and I were scratching our heads over that today, as there no bump-out on the pan (at least not on my '72).
Thanks,
Michael

On the Lower Right? That is where the dipstick comes into the pan I think... I'll have to look at my parts one tomorrow...

Re: re: c4 transmission pan gastket
You might want to recheck that VIN tag.A 360 is an FE and Ford never made a C4 to bolt to an FE.I'm told it can be done but requires a custom bellhousing.kevs250 wrote:I have a 70 f250 with a 360 automatic tranny

Yes, I expect that Ford moved the dip stick location at some point (probably after there was trouble with the heat from catalytic converters).yes that is where the dipstick would come into the pan at. in that general area. anyway.
