Which Clutch To Use ??

Well it is time to replace the old Long three finger knee killer clutch in my 1968 Ford with a 360 cu.in. engine and 3 speed. I need light pedal pressure, thinking about going with a diaphram style clutch kit, what vendor would you recommend?? Thanks, Rick

I upgraded the original 11" lever style clutch with a 12" diaphram clutch when I did my last clutch job. The 12" clutch was a direct bolt on replacement to the 11".

I bought the clutch kit at my local auto parts house. Here are the specifics:

RhinoPac P/N 07-050A 90206. Technical hotline 1-800-528-6743. RhinoPac assembles kits from original clutch component manufactures.

I prefer the Centerforce II clutch. Summit Racing may have that on line.

A heavy pedal pressure is not normal with even the
stock clutch...My 68 was like that at one point, before I
owned it.. But it was replaced, and that cured the problem.
I forgot exactly what causes that heavy pedal....
He told me once, but I forgot...
But when I changed engines, I replaced the clutch again,
just to be on the safe side as far as life...
It's also pretty easy to push. Ditto for my 74...
Anyway, I'd go with what ya want, but even a new
complete "stock" clutch should be fairly easy, if you replace
everything. IE: I installed the whole kit...New PP, bearing,
disk, etc...lifetime warranty of course...
Mine is nowhere close to being hard to push. Just right

a hard clutch could be an over sized cltutch plate bad pressure plates and or an overfilled slave cylinder or master cylinder. or a collapsed line somewhere.Much like stiff brakes.Oh and bent or missaligne linkages.

I forgot, but I think in his case, it was a bad
pressure plate. At one time, the 68 used to be
*real* hard to push. But it was just bad parts...
Once replaced, it was easy again. Even with just
stock parts. MK

Just a little bit of info i picked up when i was greasing and oiling the big rig volvos at Bingham Sand and Gravel, Treese,KS 7.50/hr. And as such it was my job to report unreported *Hard Clutches* And to watch for kinked lines and leaks and such.

Some high performance clutches have heavy springs at the pressure plate which makes the pedal pressure heavier.

I've heard of those tougher springs thought they were the ones thast are oversized replacement springs guess i was wrong It's Not the first time. Or the last time iether.
