c4 transmission pan gastket

I am replacing the fluid in my tranny and i have been going around looking for a gastket. i found a c4 gasket but it seems like it won't fit my tranny. this is the one that looks like it fits...

Are you sure it is a C4? Here is a id chart. If its behind an fe it may be fmx. :thup:

Your picture of the gasket definitely looks like a C-4.

Maybe you have a FMX?

I have a 70 f250 with a 360 automatic tranny
on my vin, it has a G under transmission which means it has a c4
but the pan gastket looks like a c6......
i am confused :cry:
a previous owner might have put in a new tranny, but im not really sure

Did you check out the transmission ID chart that Craftsman suggested here:

Yes someone could have easily changed the tranny, (you can't rely on the ID tags alone).

So what is the deal with the little bump-out in the upper righthand corner of the C4 pan gasket? My father-in-law and I were scratching our heads over that today, as there no bump-out on the pan (at least not on my '72).

On the Lower Right? That is where the dipstick comes into the pan I think... I'll have to look at my parts one tomorrow...

Can you post a picture of your trans pan? That will help in figuring out what you have.

You might want to recheck that VIN tag.A 360 is an FE and Ford never made a C4 to bolt to an FE.I'm told it can be done but requires a custom bellhousing.

Yes, I expect that Ford moved the dip stick location at some point (probably after there was trouble with the heat from catalytic converters).
