instrument cluster question

ok, I ran over to the salvage yard and came across an almost perfect, save some minor discoloration, instrument cluster with the oil press. and volt guages. no IDIOT lights.

my question is, will it swap right in place of my '70 model cluster with idiot lights WITHOUT wire modifications???

please advise.

No, it will not....you'll have to do a little rewiring to make it work. The main wiring harness on idiot-light trucks aren't set up to use an ammeter. The feed to the ammeter comes off a shunt from the solenoid-to-alternator cable.

FYI, you may already know, I learned after I purchaced my replacement cluster, only a 70 will work, the plug on the 70 is shorter than on 71-2 models

i gave those parts to your daughter. the plug for the gauges you might get if they guy coming by this weekend does not want it. he ask first.

I haven't personally done the mods yet to hook up a shunt to make the factory ammeter work, so I can't help you out further yet.
