Keep driving like that and you'll learn what it feels like to shift without synchros. Might even get lucky and snap a shift fork.
 what a buzz kill

You are right, but where is the fun in shifting nice? :?

Actually, it does what it does because the tranny is over 20 years old and going strong.

435's and T-18's last indefinitely if they're maintained and treated right.

These transmissions were designed when things were built to last forever and they do.

Yeah, One of my next projects is to service the tranny because I am sure my dad never did. He was of the mind set "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" But I do believe in regular maintenance. You should have seen the rear end I replaced. The gears were razor blades!

The point is, if you drive like a d!ck, you break sh!t. When it's old, parts may not be easy to find. Don't drive like a d!ck.

Grind away! It's job security for me.

Did a new 4runner a few eeks ago with 15K miles on it. Needed synchos and a clutch. $1500 job. 2 weeks later I get a really p!ssed off 4runner owner calling me to tell me he'll be taking me up on my warranty. Got it towed in, pulled it down and he managed to snap the countershaft in half. That is NOT a warranty deal whatsoever.

The countershaft alone was a $455 part. I gave him a deal on labor, but also gave him a good talking to about how to drive correctly and keep money in his wallet.

Beat anything hard enough and you'll break it.

Ok, fordification is not a slam fest. 90% of the time I drive my truck like it is my most prized possesion because it is. I don't know anyone that does not occasionally utilize the power available to them. Before it is over with, My plans for this truck will cost me over $20,000! I do not intend to beat up this truck like my father did, however, The truck has the means to fund a lot of it's own restoration. I would be a fool not to use that advantage. I have been riding in this truck since I was born and I have been driving it for 4 years. I think I know what it can and cannot handle.

Sorry, No intention to ruffle anyone's feathers but I decided it was time to stop the member bashing before it got too far. I still appreciate all of your comments and concerns. I just want to assure you that I do not abuse Ol' Blue.

Thanks.
