What I have here is a dilema.
In my 67 2wd truck I have a T-18, 3.70 gears and a 240 six banger in it.
In order for it to be mobile it would need a different driveshaft installed.
I can get a used one for about 25 bux and for another 30 I can have it shortened to fit.
Now I have an option to get a overdrive stick (3 speed+OD) for about 50 bucks from a 85 1/2 ton.
With the OD tranny I need to pull it myself for a total of 50 bucks.
The OD tranny will work with the driveshaft I have, but I do not know the condition of the tranny, since it is in a junked truck.
What do you guys think?
Get a diff tranny or get the driveshaft to fit?
EDIT: Here is some info on the OD transmission for ya: http://www.5speeds.com/toploader.html
Need your help guys

Hey Spartman...
I'd stick with the T-18 since you have some history with it.
Like you said, you don't know what kind of condition the 3-speed is in.
I'd hate to see ya pull the 3-speed and find out it's junk after ya get it home.
I think the T-18's are a much better tranny anyway.
You might also run into clutch or fly wheel bushing problems switching to the 3-speed... I'm not 100% sure of that though.

It would be nice to know if the 3 speed was good. It would be cool to have OD. Like kaptnkaos said I would hate for you to pull it and find out its no good. I think I would go for the T-18, my 1 ton this one and it works good. The only problem I have with it is R is over and up and on my DD is over and down. Other than that. Hopes that problems.

Well, if i new the t18 was good, i would stay with it, od is nice but the 3 speed with od does'nt have much od, .87 i think, i have one that came out of a 78 and i couldn't tell much difference between 3rd and 4th, 4th being od. Also the od trans had a wide space between 2nd and 3rd. It did hold up for almost 200k before a rebuild, and when i removed it, it had run without oil by po. Still shifted fine but had some issues. The od trans is not a work horse but would do fine for dd.

I'd go with the T18.I seem to remember the mid 80's OD trannys being a problem child.
