1966 3-speed with O/D bolt on yoke, want slip yoke.

Post by winr »

I have a 3-speed Tranny with T-85 O/D out of a 1966 long wheelbase 352 CI F-100.

It has a bolt on yoke, I would like to use a slip yoke, my 65 F-100 is short wheel base and I want a one piece driveshaft.

What is necessary to do this ??

Thanks.

Don't think you can do that. You will prolly have to keep that output yoke and have a driveshaft made up with slip splines in it to accomidate the movement.

I agree, the slip-joint driveshaft would be the ticket. Since transfer cases on 4WDs don't have a slip yoke, the rear driveshaft (between the transfer case and the rearend) use a slip-joint driveshaft. If you're lucky, you could even find one meant for a SWB 2WD truck with a manual 4-speed. Here's a few graphics for the visual. The first two are shots from a SWB 4WD:

Richard, I'm not sure if Ford used a 3 speed o/d with a slip yoke. I have 2 of them..One was from a bump the other from a slick. Both were short beds. Both have bolt on yokes. The bump had an FE.The slick had a Y-Block. :)

Thanks for the info!!!

I would have thought that the slip joint went to the rear end joke......

That helps, I have half of a 2 piece driveshaft that had a carrier bearing.

I have the half with the slip joint on it, it has a threaded cover like in the picture.

After I rebuld my trans, I will get a drive shaft build with the slip joint in it.

spartman, I got the slip joint form a 70 or 80 something Ford truck.
It had a 2 piece driveshaft.
