T18 crossmember location

Post by mjhaltom »

Would one of you guys that has an FE and a T18 look under your truck and tell me which set of holes your tranny crossmember is bolted into?

I am replacing my 3 speed with a T18 and I have got it bolted in and the distance from the tranny to the motor mounts seems to be close, but my driveshaft is about an inch or so short (the front shaft).

Can I even use my original driveshaft that was behind my 240 and 3 speed? Insight from you guys has gotten me this far, please don't let me down now!!!

i have never seen a t18. the only advise i can give is that the crossmember can go in forwards and backwards also as well as the other two bolt locations. that can give you a little room to work the distances you might need. but not much.

I have that combo in my F350, but I won't home in daylight until Thursday. I some of the ice has melted, I climb under with a tape measure. I don't know how different my F350 is from your F100.

With an FE/T18 combo, the crossmember gets bolted to the rear set of holes on the frame. As for the drive shaft, I wont say for sure, but it's very possible it will need to be changed.

Thanks Paul. I currently have it bolted in the front holes. That explains my problem I think. I think I can reuse my original driveshaft if I move the crossmember back. I'll give it a try.

And the engine perchs bolt into the rear holes as well, right?

Does this mean I don't have to climb under my truck in the ice now? :D

Got the crossmember moved and the driveshafts from my original 3.03 and 240 bolted right up. Sweet!
