99 Ranger Question

Post by cghstrojan08 »

Does anyone know anything about installing power windows, power locks, cruise control, and maybe 4 wheel abs on a 1999 Ranger? I have been asking on some other Ranger forums and they are a bunch of @ss holes. I like you guys way better. Thanks.

PS - I want to use OEM stuff. No after market.

i am unsure about the brakes on them. but i would think all you would have to do is get tthe parts and then swap them into your truck.

yeah, I'm w/fordman, buy one that's been sucker-punched hard in the rear and buckled the frame hard and totalled and rob away and crush what's left in the end. You might work w/salvage yard and get a really low mileage body after they've sold the eng/tran for a grand or so and pick up the body for 4-500 or less and get couple hundred back in crush weight after you're done. But all those figures depend on where you are and having trailor available and not having to hire towing.

I'm not sure about the power stuff, but i think the rear disc off an explorer can be made to work.
Here some info on it

Robert,
installing power windows, power locks, cruise control,

I'd start with the wiring in the truck you're gonna add this to.

Is the existing wiring that is there sufficient enough to accommodate the "additional" power stuff?

If you don't have a wiring diagram on the truck, you might want to get that first. That way you could verify if the wiring is there that you would need to do the power stuff. Here's one:

A few sellers now offer a "color schematic" diagram of each vehicle, (you might want to run your own search engine on eb ay).

Door panel(s) would probably have to be changed as manual windows vs. power would be different.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Thanks guys. I have talked to some other people and the 4 wheel abs is out of the question. It will take to much work and money. So, now I am just gonna do the windows, locks, cruise.

Ford's really good about plug in play. Exerything should be in the cab wiring wise, you'll probably just have to do the stuff in the doors. The brakes are a pain because there are so many systems and sensor that need swapped around and it still may not work. Of course with the cruis control you;ll have to swap out the wheel and maybe the column (not sure on that bodystyle). As said above, find a wreck and swap away.

well I belive the power window would likely work with a little playing around, but for the lock I don't see it because on the newer truck the power actuator, is integral in the door latch I belive. :?

Maybe, but why go aftermarket when the factory stuff was designed for the truck and will fit / work better longer?

See I heard on a Ranger site that the 4 cyl were not pre-wired for the cruise. I woul really like to have that since the college I am gonna go to is 1 1/2 hours from home. How would I wire it? or where does the wires go for that box?
