Clutch recommendation?
Well, the clutch in the old beast is finally worn out.
Need one that won't break the bank since Christmas is right around the corner, but also need a real heavy duty one that can stand up to some abuse.
What brands/models have you guys had good luck with?

re: Clutch recommendation?
Hey Aaron...
I just got an 11 inch clutch, w/a 3 finger style pressure plate (for a 390) at C.R.A.P. for $162.00.
I forgot to bring the old t/o bearing with me so I gotta take it by and pick up a new one of those friday when I go pick up my flywheel.

I've installed 3 zoom clutches and every one of them had the pressure plate come apart behind stock gas engines. Granted, they were the "OE replacement" style, but when you buy from wholesalers they don't carry the high performance stuff, just replacement parts for the most part.
LUK is what comes OEM in a lot of vehicles today. They make pretty good stuff. I've only heard of one LUK pressure plate having issues. It was behind a 12 valve that was slipping right at what it was rated for torquewise. Most will hold a good bit more.

There might be a difference between a ZOOM & ZOOM II set-up. I know that it has seen 6,200 RPM's with 35" tires with 3.50 gears with a 450-500HP behind it. And a ton of miles.averagef250 wrote:I've installed 3 zoom clutches and every one of them had the pressure plate come apart behind stock gas engines. I wouldn't put a OE Style set-up in anything!!! Been there and done that. I did try that one time (OE Set-up) and it didn't hold worth a crap!!! I totally agree with ya on that. But I guess I (like you) demand more out of it.....JMO

Centerforces standard line is chinese garbage. Guess who makes centerforce's dual friction line???? LUK!
Ever bought a dual friction clutch kit? If you get the chance, take a close look at the pressure plate. It's clearly stamped LUK. But wait, you say!- it's painted orange and it has super dooperific centrifugal weight whatzits on the release fingers!
Well there haven't been any scientific tests to confirm the orange paint doesn't help clutch performance, but it's pretty well proven those little weight dealies do absolutely nothing.
Don't believe me? Give centerforce tech dept. a call. Hound them for thier clamp pressure rates. They more than likely will tell you they don't know, but theirs is the best clutch! Next for kicks call the LUK tech dept. guys. These guys will be nice and sound like they have a brain. They will probably laugh when you ask them how thier clutches stack up when compared to centerforces dual friction. After he regains his composure, he'll tell you they make everything centerforce labels "high performance" and all it really is is thier plain old standard LUK pressure plate painted orange with flyweights that do nothing until 12,500 or so RPM.

people always bash centerforce, ive just never had a problem with them, i had one in my 87 supra twin turbo when i bought it and it lasted for 3 years until i sold it, who knows for how long after that, and it wasnt no light driving either, i dropped that clutch at least 5 or 6 times a day just waiting for something to go. the same for my turbo daytona. maybe i lucked out on 2 cars, i probably wouldnt buy one again, i would probably go with a LUK. im not saying anything is the best because when i comes to clutches i know sh*t about them.averagef250 wrote:Centerforces standard line is chinese garbage. re: Clutch recommendation?
depends on the application.
also the flywheel, and check it carefully just because it can be ground does not mean it should if its covered in hot spots/cracks its going to likely chatter any way.
well for spring stile in my one tone I use the large diameter ford clutch, right from ford. I used almost every other brand, and really had bad luck, the performance clutch sliped at lower rpms, the velco springs popped, the dana packs the disk snapped in a day.
now I use a dia fram clutch/and pressure plate and really I highly recommend the swap the pedal feel is great and the grip is almost twice as much as any spring stile.
