Does it matter which way the pump is mounted?
Is there a preferred way?
Does the bracket determine which way the pump goes or does it really matter or does the way you wanna mount it determine which bracket to use?

No, the bracket is the same whether you mount it vertically or horizontally.In some of the pics from the website you can see a support brace. I think if I was going to mount the compressor vertically, I would definitely find (or make) on. I don't know how necessary they are for a horizontal application, but if I had 'em I'd definitely use 'em.

That's exactly what I was looking for...
That P/S mount in your pic looks totally differant than the one I took off of the '71.
The P/S mount I have looks like this one...

Would the A/C mount in the pic you posted work with this type P/S mount?

i would say probably but that doesnt mean the pulleys will all line up correctly.

Actually, the one you have IS the one you need. Well, the one I pictured above (which is the early style) will also work (obviously), but the one you have (the later style) is usually much easier to find and is better overall IMO.

Also, just in case you didn't notice, the engine I pictured above is a small-block, but the FE compressor bracket looks the same. I don't believe they'll interchange though...that pic was just a visual reference.
