Kick Down
So I was hooking up my automatic kick down cable from lokar when I realized the that the shaft that the kick down linkage bolts to did not have any return spring. Basically, the kick down turns but it won't return to its original position unless pushed. Has anyone run across this? I do have a second trans that does have the appropriate spring to the kick down, but I would really rhather not take apart a perfectly good tranny just for that part. Can the one in the truck be fixed, or can I buy the proper part? Also, If I do need to just steal the part, how difficult is it to change?
By the way, its a C-6 behind a 460 if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the help...

re: Kick Down
My 460 and c6 are out of a 75 lincoln. Anyway, I did remove the pan and the spring is not obvious from the bottom. I am guessing it is a spring that somehow raps around the linkage shaft. Anyone have any ideas how difficult this is to repair?

I can't help you with your problem, but please take pictures of what you are doing. I have a 460/C6 in my 71 shortbed and I was planning on buying the lokar kick down set up as well. What you find will really help me when the time comes.
thanks

re: Kick Down
when you push down on your kickdown tab on the C-6, does it move down and automatically come right back up?
I'll be glad to read how someone hooks up a kickdown to a C-6 with the short trans tunnel. I have C-6 behind my 5.0 and there's no room to run the rod that was stock in another vehicle. I'm hoping someone posts some pix of Lokar or other kickdown fixes. I've determined I'm going to have to buy a torch, set up a bench vise and go to bending a peice of steel rod into a spagetti shape to get mine to fit/hook up. Banjo.

No, it doesn't come right back up. In fact, it kinda clicks and allows you to turn it all the way around, kinda like a stripped bolt does when you try to tighten it.
The lokar kickdown cable itself is not difficult to install. It comes with good directions. The trick, which I haven't tackled yet, is you need to use lokars bracketry at the carb, which will not work (i was told by lokar) witht the stock throttle pedel linkage. I will attack that soon, but gotta get the kick down return spring figured out first. I bought a haynes manual but haven't had a chance to look at it and the tranny at the same time. Anyone have any experience with trannies?
I'll try to post some pictures, but I haven't had much luck with that yet. Is there directions on the site somewhere?

You are going to have to open that trans up. It shouldn't spin all the way around like that. You have a problem. Badshoe productions has a great C6 rebuild video. You can find it on ebay and other places. Google it and you will find it. If you can't let me know and I will look it up for you.

There should also be a helper spring on the carburetor kickdown lever.
The nut is more than likely loose on the trans kickdown lever, you won't have to open the pan if this is the case. The actuating lever inside the trans is in a tight spot that will not allow it to spin all the way around or even 90 degrees.
The outside lever indexes on the kickdown shaft at at around 9-10 o'clock with clockwise pressure applied.
