sway bar and power brake booster

Post by Pipes71 »

hey guys Im trying to get all the right stuff to be able to put the 460 in my truck. So far with alot of help from some great guys here I'm almost there, and I think after this weekend I can start swapping the suspension onto the other frame. One thing I got to thinking about is that right now on the frame that everything is bolted on there is no front sway bar at all. I know the truck came with a 360 and that the P.O rigged all sorts of stuff together to get the 460 in it, so I'm guessing if there was a sway bar on it he musta taken it off. I'm going to be using the front suspension off a 77 (I think..the guy who I got it off said he thought it was a 79 but the numbers on the radious arm says D7) as far as disk brake set up and radious arms and springs. I heard I needed a sway bar that was infront of the crossmember. My question is will a factory one off a dentside 250 or 350 fit on this?(I can get one of these but it has a 390 motor) or do I need to go with a 150 with a 460 in it or am I stuck with an aftermarket kit? Alos I've been looking around for the rest of the brake parts I'm missing which is pretty much all the lines and booster. Ive seen master cyclinders and powerbrake boosters around but they say up to 74 or one said 70 to 77, or something like that. Is there a certain year I cant use? My truck is a 68 andI had thought there was no difference with the dentside years when swapping it over to a bump.
thanks in advance

Since the dentside front end is exactly the same as a bumpside, the swaybar setup will bolt right up. It makes absolutely no difference what size the engine is.

You can use any booster up through early-'77. The late-'77 thru '79 boosters won't work at all on our trucks....well, at least not without a bunch of needless fabrication. See the following link for more info:

Thanks Keith for saving me a headache..I nearly got on off a 79 and am glad I waited. Now do I need to switch the pedal assembly to, or will the one from the manual brakes on my 68 work? I'm not bothered if the pedal size is different.

You existing pedal assembly will work just fine, as long as you're using a '68-'77½ booster. When you get the booster, be sure to also get the vacuum hose and nipple from the intake manifold.
