1970 F100 2WD Suspension Modifications

Post by nutlugs »

I am currently planning to upgrade my 1970 longbed into a trailer hauler to pull my '40 Coupe (yep, an old Ford pulling an older Ford). This will be an open/flat trailer - nothing ultra heavy duty required. I want to set up the truck to ride and handle as smooth as a modern day truck. This would entail major suspension upgrades. I am looking for suggestions. I do know the easy response is to put the body on a late model chassis. Hell, that ain't no fun! Let's sweat it out and do this the old fashioned way!

I would like an air suspension (Air Ride) for height adjustment. I want disc brakes at all four corners. I am not sure about 4 bar parallel link or 3 link rear suspension. I am also looking for input on suppliers out there who may make off the shelf parts for the suspension or who make parts that are adaptable to the frame/suspension.

Please, any and all suggestions and input would be fantastic. I want this truck to last a long time and be a smooth towing vehicle which is also highly dependable. But, I need a plan first.

Thanks in advance!

for front disc brakes you would want to get a 73-79 f100 set up to do your front.
