Our trucks' transmissions
I know our trucks had different transmissions. Which is considered the best, worst, fastest, and slowest? I just mean ones that came with our trucks, something that you could get out of a junkyard.

How many gears are in the c6 and would it be a fast trans? I have a 3 on the tree right now.

the np-435 is basically a work tranny. both it and the t-18 have a granny gear first, but the t-18's is higher. as far as the c6, fmx, and c4, the c6 is darn near bullet proof but steals allot of power. they are to sluggish imo. there were really no "fast"manual tranny's for our trucks. they were made for puling loads. I know allot of guys who run 3 on the trees in drags. so i would say either the three swapped to a floor shift or a built c4

I saw a floor shifter for a 3 speed at the junk yard here, shoud I get that? It seems that the shifter on the column takes to long to get to the other gears.

The T19 Borg Warner is the "fastest" 4 speed manual tranny if any. They are more popular in early 80's F250s but did show up in very few '67-'72 Fords. I just put one in mine and it's awesome! The outer characteristics are identical to the NP435 just without the aluminum top cover.

T19 is outwardly identical to a T18, but Ford used the 19 with the diesels from '84 to '87.

I put the T19 on my FE 390. I bought it rebuilt from a shop but you can usually find them on 83-87 F250s. They come in 3 different ratios. I have the tallest first gear with a 4.1 ratio. They also made a 5.1 first gear and a 6.32 first gear but I think the 4.1 is the most common. They are easy to find in junk yards with 4x4 but the 2 wd are harder to find because they are usually T18 which are identical externally except for the case number.

If you have a 3 on the tree tranny the center hump will need to be cut for a 4 speed. 4 speed and C6 trucks had removable center humps.
