Want me some overdrive

Post by theogre5150 »

Ok. Right now I have the 3 on the tree setup with a 240 I6. I would like to go to an overdrive setup. What do I need to do to accomplish this?

I'm pretty sure a standard 3-spd can't be converted to the factory-style overdrive...you'd have to find a complete 3-spd OD transmission to swap in.

Wow, I can help the bump guru on this one. :P The factory 3.03 trans was a Ford built toploader unit. The 3 speed overdrive was a T-85N built by BorgWarner. It's a sideloader unit. All they share is the bolt pattern and input spline demensions. The OD trans is also longer than the 3.03. :)

You could do what I did and put a T-5 in...(see web site)

or you could go with the mazda 5 speed.

M5R2 or T-5 gets my vote too. Cheap, plentiful and nicer to drive than a 3 speed O/D
