High Clutch Pedal
Sorry...I have another '77 F250 question...
I bought this truck in June from the original owner. 300 six with NP435 four-speed. The clutch pedal sits a LOT higher than the brake, and requires a lot of leg motion to engage it. I just bought a shop manual set and glanced at the clutch adjustment section - not sure if I understand what kind of adjustment is in the clutch. The upper limit of the pedal seems to be set by the rubber bumper underneath the dash - perhaps this is worn or broken?
Anyway, any advice would be helpful.

They are all that way.
Just don't bump your chin when you lift your leg that high.

Yep...just that way.
You will get used to it.
I actualy think new cars feel wierd...cant "feel" the clutch and they are too touchy. (I do like the 90's mustangs, they fell right.)

Actually, a lot of these trucks have had the rubber bumper rot and fall off over the years. This adds about an inch to pedal height.
Every truck has a slightly different clutch feel to it. If you lube everything up, make sure bushings are where they're suppose to be, the right springs are in the right spots and adjust the freeplay correctly the pedal should be nice and easy with a good diaphram clutch.

Yep, what Dustin says. Also you can loosen the pin that that bushing is on and adjust it to lower the pedal. I had to raise mine a little for complete clutch actuation on the diesel swap.

re: High Clutch Pedal
Thanks everyone...that's what I was kinda thinking was the deal.
But the clutch feels just a tad too high, and I've looked under the dash and the rubber bumper seems thin, so if I can replace that and gain about an inch in dropped height, that will make a world of difference.

Put some heater hose over the stop pin. Works

re: High Clutch Pedal
That stop has an eccentric bolt. In other words it is off-set to allow you to adjust the peddle height. Works well as long as the rubber bushing is still there

the 73-79 brake pedals are lower then the 65-72.
The 73-79 clutch pedals are VERY high and have a very strong 1-1/2 diameter clutch assist spring on the pedal. it is not uncommon for this spring to break and fallout at some point. without this spring the clutch works fine but will have a much harder feel and take more effort to press.

re: High Clutch Pedal
edselehr,
You might want to make sure that one inch you're gonna add won't affect the clutch. Try holding it there, (depressed the one inch) to make sure it's not already engaging the clutch. Otherwise, you'd be riding the clutch and wear it out faster.
