1972 F100 Clutch Diameter

Post by rgoot01 »

I have a '72 F100 4x4 w/390. However the 390 is not factory. The 360 was factory engine. I have an Np435 that needs a clutch. Unfortunately I don't know what dia. I need without removing the tranny. Are the clutchs interchangeable regardless of diameter? Are the flywheel bolt patterns same? Any info would be greatly appreciated for I would like to buy clutch before removing tranny.

I would think the 360 and 390 would have the same size clutch. You need to have the flywheel resurfaced anyway so i would go ahead and pull the tranny. Take the flywheel by machine shop then go get new clutch.

That would be the prefered way to do it. Normaly, The 3 spd had a 10 inch and a 4 spd had a 11 inch, but there are no guarantees.

Flywheel patterns are the same. I wouldn't think a 10" clutch would come from the factory behind an FE.

From what I've seen there are 11 and 12" clutches for the FE. The flywheels are the same. Get a 12" LUK or Valeo and you will be happy.
