5-speed tranny questions

Post by 71Ford100 »

What, if any, FORD 5 speed trannys will bolt to either the 360/90/428 block and the 429/460 block. Also tranny needs to either bolt up to a dana 24 or a np205 perferably the 24.

You can get a zf5 that will bolt to the 429/460, but will require some searching to find one. They made them with the deisel and small block bellhousing patterns as well, don't buy one of those. It has an integral bellousing and a hydraulic cluch, just for reference.

I forgot to add that the 4x4 versions of this tranny most of the time are found with a np205 or a bw1341 still attached.

What is the spline count on the outpoint shaft of the t-case on the 205?

I don't know. You'd have to do some research. If it is differnet from the one you have, it would probably be alot easier to use the one that is specific to the year. The made this tranny until 96 bolted to the 460.

All ford NP205 output yoke splines are 32 spline. All Ford fullsize t-case except the Dana 21 are 31 spline from 73-97. All 73-97 Ford fullsize transfer cases interchange.

The S5-42 460 gas version bolts to an 385 engine and a 205. It will not bolt to an FE.
