One thing to keep an eye on is Ford's interior black was usually a mix of other paints and every original interior I've seen from the 60's has had metallic in the black parts (steering columns, door panels, trim peices, etc) so even if the dash and interior are the same shade / texture as the rest of the truck these things should have some metal in them. On my '68 fairlane the engine bay black even has metallic in it. It's a way to tell a 'restored' car to an original.

Just an FYI for anyone interested. I just bought the "black" vinyl seat cover for my 67 from NPD. Once I got it and opened the box I was surprised to find that the ribbed portion of the covers are gray.

At first I was bummed, but now I am getting used to it. In all other ways such as quality, fit, ease of installation, etc., its great. But if you are looking for all black you would probably be disappointed in this product.

But I sure am having fun using hog ring pliers! What a great invention! Heck, I just like saying hog ring. Put a beer in one hand and hog ring pliers in the other, Im here to tell you, thats a picture of a man!!

I will post pictures as soon as I have it in the truck.

I got my kit from npd and its for a 1971 ford Explorer Special Custom. One I got are for the ranger xlt its was 199$ and there all black. With cloth inserts. If any of you get parts from npd call the Florida depot and ask for :PAUL FISH" Great guy. And tell him a kid from Mountain view arkansas said to call him. Even thow I call the florida depot I still get my parts fast.

Im convinced that this will be the way i end up going, with a touch of gray added in. The heat wont bug me, I drive a black mustang with black leather. Ive had black cars forever, Im used to it. Of course the no a/c is an issue... but thats an easy issue to resolve, just need to replace the old underdash from the dealer with a new system that works.
Since you asked......stay away from any gray in the interior. Gray is used way too much and doesn't look good in these trucks or any older vehicle for that matter. All black would look sharp but if you want a contrasting color, go with something from the era of the truck. Burgundy, saddle, etc. Good luck.

Just finished the seat project this afternoon. This is the seat cover from NPD. It fit pretty well, but its not an exact fit as far as the hold downs or hog ring points. I had to get a little creative. But all in all I am pretty happy with it. There is still a part of me that wishes it had come all black, but I think it looks good and Im content with the outcome.

That looks great! Im thinking about using that color scheme on a mid 90s 40/20/40 seat.
