Ash tray in my 69 f-250

Can anyone tell me why the ashtray in my 69 f-250 is floppin around like it wasnt meant to be there? I thought all but the 67 ashtrays were interchangeable. Or Not?

i know the 68-72 ashtrays use a ball bearing setup to hold them in and help them sldie in and out. i havent looked at my 67 ashtray so i cant help you on that.

I must be missing some parts because the rails dont line uo with the slots on the ash tray.

The 67 style is a one year only style.You could get the 68-72 style.They are different from the 67 style.They will not interchange with the 68-72 style.

here is a comparison shot of the two different ashtrays. the 67 is on the left and the 68-72 is on the right. the 68-72 uses a ballbearing system traped in a cage where as the 67 only ash tray just slips in and out of the hole with nothin more than a tiab to hold it into the dash. my guess is that you have the 68-72 style ashtray and the trapped ball thing is gone and or you could have a mix of ashtrays and mounts. you check the piocs and decide. the 68-72 mount is also different to the 67 only the trapped balls ride in a slot in both the ashtray and the mount. let us know what you find out.

Ahh, yes... I am missing that red piece attached to the slots on the bottom. Thats what wrong. Anyone got an extra set?
