Window Regulator

Post by The_Eman »

At the time of purchase the window was laying at the bottom of the door. Using the tutorial I removed the window and the window regulator.
The regulator seems to be in good condition. With no window or other load, it rolls up and down. Is there a better way to test for viability?

thx,

Eman

look at the teeth on the gears of the regulator. if they are ate off then its going to be a problem regulator and will need to be replaced. if it looks ok then it will probably function fine when you reinstall the glass and regulator in the door again.

May not have had to pull either the window or the regulater. Most times all that happens is the Regulater Roller Assy splits where it fits in the groove in the bottom window channel, then the window just drops. Years ago when I was doing fleet work, I always kept a few of the rollers in my tool box.

Is the channel the metal pc that is glued to the bottom of the window. It is well rusted and that may need to be replaced. I finished the uninstall as my wife was calling me for dinner so I'll inspect that today. If it is that pc i'll have to figure out how to remove it and replace it.

thx,

Eric

yes thats the channel hes talking about. the channel will come off of the glass. when the new one is put back on it will have a rubber deal that goes inside the channel to keep it on the glass.

do yourself a favor on window regulators, clean everywhere you can, inside the teeth, slider plate and little wheels and everything real good with something like brake or carb cleaner and let dry and then penetrating oil things and then white grease or some kinda silicone where you can. I did both regulars, one with cleaning and one without, same lubing ritual and one I didn't bother to clean does not roll down near as easy as the one I spend some time cleaning everywhere I could to remove all old grease/dirt/funky stuff. So, now I get to pull back apart the one I got lazy on and clean it properly, because I didn't bother doing it right first time.
