dana 60 swap

Post by ford-nut »

can a 1979 f350 dana 60 be swapped into my 69 f250 highboy? Got one im looking at.

front axle.

anyone know if this f350 axle is same width? Spring perches same?

The one im looking at is all set up the way i want, with detroit locker, 5.13 gears...
Just have to change gearing in the rear of my existing dana 6o, and add another detroit, and im good to go... (will make for good gear ratio with my 38" Ground Hawg radials)

Thanks in advance! Jeff

WOW, 5:13 R&Ps. I did that in a Ford with 39" mickeys. It ran great. I took it to a speedo shop to get the speedo recaled and they said no need to. With the combo I had the speedo was only 1MPH off.

Are you going to 4x this rig? You might want to upgrade the rear D60 if it is still the origonal. They are only 16 spine axles. The combo of the 38s and the a detroit might snap the shafts. They aren't as strong at the 31 spline D60. I figure if you are going to spend the money on the front you might as well do the back.

The rear D60 perches on your truck are set narrower the the newer ones. I believe the front perches are set the same. Wait for some more opinion or tape them.

bought the axle.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 03207&rd=1

spring perches are the same, 32" centers.

Hope steering isnt a problem, but looks the same.

Excited about this buy. I think i got a good deal, as the locker alone costs over 600 bucks alone..

Jeff

Hope shipping isnt HUGE!

Ha. Love my 69 highboy. My new 427 stroker motor is AWSOME! Got pulling power like my Cummins Turbo i tell ya. Springs, tires, axles and gearing, and im there! Ha. Take a 3500 dollar truck, and add mucho dinero. Thats what this project is for sure...

i have no idea how to post pics.

got an email addy? Il send you a couple. Its stock looking at the moment, with 33 inch bfg mud terrains, but have ordered custon 6" springs, 38" radial Ground Hawgs, and the front axle... I built a stroked 427 FE for it, (482 ", took almost 2 years to gather the parts), and installed a C6 behind it. It runs GREAT! Its just a hobby truck, but i have a vision for it, and am going to see it threw. Im a Rock Crawling guy in previous years with my lil bronco, (more modifications than i can begin to say...), and always wanted a BAD ASS full size, but it had to be a Highboy..

Fun, But EXPENCIVE hoby. Better than some other addictions i guess!

That drag link isn't going to match up. It'll need a 90* twist.
