Most drag cars run automatics,I'm sure they have more torque than most of us.It must not rob too much horse power!

Forgot to mention the BFH, used sockets or turned bushing drivers on the lathe as needed and substituted lots of swearing for the clutch spring press.
I never was a fan of working on autos though. I hate smelling like burned ATF. I like to work on manuals though. I do a good number of late model pickup and medium truck trannies as side work. As long as you can find a reliable and quality parts source, manual transmissions are fairly straightforward.

re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
Well I have the AO Dominator, for better or worse, maybe next week before I can installl it and it will require drive shaft modifications. I plan on putting in a Quick silver floor shifter. The Ididit Colmn has developed a rattle anyway so this winter I will send it back to them to remove the shift colar and fix the rattle.
I'm looking forward to the overdrive, 4k rpm at 70 was a little rough. bty, she pulled to 115 in 3rd at 6k (rev limiter, engine goes to 7500 I have no doubt that it would pull 7500 easy toooo easy that would be about 140mph thats why the limiter) rpm very quick and easy.

re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
I just put the aod final drive ratio in the caculator, at .80 that would mean 3k rpm at 75 mph (great) but if it pulls to 6k in overdrive thats 152 mph and 7500 is 190 when do you think she will take flight

re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
I'm replying to myself, just found out the overdrive ratio is .07:1 thats 72mph at 2500 rpm. 130mph at 4500 174 at 6k and 218 at 7500 I know this is all theory and after driving at 115 I do not need to go any faster... but speculation is nice. maybe if I grafted on a daytona nose, big wing and hit the salt flats (oh no, thats bad fot the paint)

Hope you have tight suspension! I just got the EFI tuned close on the 390 in my '70 awhile back. Headed to friends place on some back country roads I was goosing the old highboy with a friend in his built up RX7 following. We ended up getting into it a bit on a straightaway and I held into it pretty good without having my speedo hooked up yet. We were neck-neck for a little bit, wound her out pretty good and hit 5th at about 5500. That old 390 pulled away like the RX7 was standing still. I wasn't processing math at the time, but when we got to our destination I was informed he was on his rev limiter and we were traveling around 140 mph by his speedo when I pulled away. I'm not BS'ing. It really didn't feel like I was going more than 100. Previous to that the fastest the old girl had ever gone was 85. I still can't believe she handled as good as she did at that clip. She did good, but that was enough for me. Atleast I can't get myself into trouble like that with the cummins.

update 05/24re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
Well the AODominator is installed with another new drives shaft and it works great, 65 mph at 2300 rpm, first gear is lower than the c-6 (plus it does not slip) its even faster now, this thing hauls, kinda stupid but wth.
I have another rear end problem though, after just 15 miles of "normal" driving, the pinion bearing is bad again, talked with shop that built the rear, he has ordered a kit that does away with the crush sleave, he said he has to do this on race cars and will fix it under warranty. Someday it will be bullet proof.
Its in my cousins upholstery shop now, getting carpet, door panels and a few other pieces installed. back to rear end shop Tuesday.

re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
oh yea, in normal driving, I hit 127 mph and backed out, got scarred. I think it will fly off the road before the motor stops pulling.
While in the shop this last time we replaced the radius arm bushings and installed a drive shaft loop.

re: high performance to no perforance 125 miles.
sleeper, at some point I need to stop spending money on it
Momma needs an new dress, baby a new pair of shoes, that kind of thing.
Time to enjoy it, plan of running it at the track in June to see what it will do, I have 29x12 MT ets, maybe it will hook up.
There are at least 3 major shows and a few minor ones withing 100 miles of me this summer, plan on attending most with all 3 trucks.
Breaks work great, even with the large cam, the smaller booster has plenty of vac. This winter I will probably go with cross drilled rotors and rear disc, I have to send the steering colmn to Ididit to replace the collar since I put a quick silver in it.
There ia also the pass side glass that is scratched, need to but in a radio of some kind and then theres that 250 shot of N02 sitting in the corner collecting dust
Did I say I need to stop spending money on this thing?
