stupid question, maybe 70 F-250

Does anyone know what the thingamajig on the firewall is for. It has a ceramic body with four male spade connections on it,it is about 3 inches long and about an inch and a half wide. It's probably not important but it has me bumfugled.

Sounds like a ballast resistor. It cuts the voltage down as it heats up. Usually used for the coil. I am puzzled with yours though, they usually only have 2 male spade connectors.

70's Mopars use a 4 connector dual ballast.

A mopar resistor on a Ford? That should set the old spidey senses tingling. Are all 4 prongs connected to wires?

There isn't any wires hooked to it I was just wondering what it was.I can't seem to find anything unusual with the coil but I don't see a ballast for it either. Well I guess I'll get back to my A/C that is what I"m working on right now. I think I have to replace the head gasket in compressor. I have low side pressure at 65lbs and high side pressure at 60lbs. THANKS For the replies though I appreciate it.

Put a resistor in line to cut voltage to coil during run. If the stock resistor wire dies, you can use the resistor instead. Makes ignition coil, points, etc. last lot longer.
